“Red Pro” Clonie Gowen Brings Lawsuit Against Full Tilt Poker.
November 16, 2008
In a story that has been blown open by PokerNews.com and then reported by one of our partner sites over at Poker News Guru, it looks as if Clonie Gowen is going full steam ahead in regards to the lawsuit she’s filed against her now-former employers over at Full Tilt Poker regarding a breach of contract.
The suit brought forth is pretty plain and simple, so I’ll just give a cliff notes version to everyone:
Clonie was apparently promised a 1% stake in the company by Howard Lederer and company back in 2004. The conversation about the ownership in Full Tilt was made over the phone and justified an oral contract (in her eyes). Clonie never signed anything in paper but went on her way regardless and began to promote the company full-time on the tournament circuit, wearing logo gear and doing promo ads for the online poker powerhouse.
Three years pass by - and with the popularity of Full Tilt Poker rising, Lederer begins to cut dividend checks to all the ‘Red Pros’ that were brought onto the company when it was first launched several years before. Clonie apparently rejects Howard’s $250,000 check on the basis that she feels the company is worth exponentially more than what Lederer is making it out to be. Despite not truly getting “paid,” Gowen continues to promote FTP for another 11-and-a-half months!
In November of this year, Full Tilt informs her she will no longer be apart of Team FTP. Now from what I gauge from that last sentence is that Clonie feels not slightly scorned and betrayed by the company she relentlessly promoted for the last 4 years, and has now decided to come forward with a lawsuit to get the 1% stake she was originally owed. She feels the company is worth in excess of $4 billion, so $40,000,000 is apparently a good enough number for her to shoot for in the legal filing…yikes.

Peter Eastgate Wins 2008 World Series of Poker Main Event!
November 12, 2008
It’s been a long 4 months for the members of the “November Nine” to finally get down to business. Well, this past weekend, they finally got to it - each of them with their eyes on the $9 million dollar 1st place prize!
And after it was all said and done, the hearts of 8 other poker players would be beaten down and broken….while the last player standing would prove to make improbable WSOP history with his amazing heads-up victory.
After an exhausting final table that featured some of the sickest beats I’ve ever witnessed in recent memory, super cardrack Peter Eastgate would prove to be unstoppable as he beat the odds-on favorite from Russia, Ivan Demidov, heads up. With nearly 200 spectators crammed into the ESPN area of the Rio to watch the final table wind down, Demidov hit an unlikely two pair (4’s and 2’s) on the turn of the final hand. However, that turn also completed a gutshot wheel draw for Eastgate, who held A 5. The river card bricked out, prompting Demidov to make a very wreckless move in which he moved all-in, where he was instacalled by the 22-year old Danish pro that many nicknamed “the Ice Gate.”
Showing relatively little emotion, Eastgate was engulfed by his hometown crowd as he looked around in pure shock at the feat he had just accomplished. Peter Eastgate was officially the youngest WSOP Main Event champion ever, beating the record set by the legendary Phil Hellmuth back in 1989.
Oh yea, he also took home $9,000,000 and change and a shiny platinum bracelet for his 1st place efforts….
Here are the final results from the 2008 WSOP M.E. final table:
1. Peter Eastgate $9,152,416
2. Ivan Demidov $5,809,595
3. Dennis Phillips $4,517,773
4. Ylon Schwartz $3,774,974
5. Scott Montgomery $3,096,768
6. Darus Suharto $2,418,562
7. David (Chino) Rheem $1,772,650
8. Kelly Kim $1,288,217
9. Craig Marquis $900,670
George Bush Aide Aiming to Push Forward UIGEA in Congress.
November 9, 2008
It seems like UIGEA just won’t go away…
Or at least in the eyes of us online poker players, just overturned already.
In a surprising twist of events that’s been recently unfolding on Capitol Hill, rumors are swirling wildly that William Wichterman, a close aide of current U.S. President George Bush, is trying to exert “considerable political pressure” to push forward UIGEA.
According to Politico.com, who first reported the story, it looks as if Wichterman has been working very closely with a high-ranking Washington lobbyist to not only to ban online gambling in America, but to also impose harsh penalties on any financial institutions, banks, and credit card companies who allow U.S. citizens to fund such “illegal” online wagering accounts.
The Bush administration is trying to get the process rolling before Barack Obama is sworn in as George Bush’s Presidential successor on January 20th, 2009. Many online poker opponents such as Arizona Senator Jon Kyl are aiming to have the UIGEA guidelines put into place before November 17th, 2008, which is around the same timeframe in which the new Democratic Presidential administration can make things a bit more difficult to pass any new laws or bills.
House Financial Committee leader Barney Frank is hoping to put a stop to any additional lobbying efforts for the implementation of UIGEA, and has vowed to continue working side by side with the PPA to ensure there’s plenty of wiggle room in the next few months to have such a vague law overturned. I’ll try and report on this story as much as possible as it unfolds even more over the next few days.
Microgaming Network Abandoning The United States Market.
November 9, 2008
One of the largest and most well-known gaming companies in the world has officially announced it is leaving the once fruitful U.S. market to focus on its international bases. The Microgaming Network -which is home to poker sites such as Doyle’s Room, Unibet, and GNUF - looks to be folding to pressure brought upon by the Kentucky court systems that have recently been involved in trying to confiscate over 100 of the top gaming domains in the industry and BAN online gambling in the Bluegrass State.
Although the ruling has been delayed and many of the rooms involved in Kentucky’s lawsuit have either placed IP-bans on their citizens or just voluntarily handed over their domains, a big network like the one Microgaming runs did not want to see any possible legal ramifications that might be brought upon them if they remained in the U.S.A. They have seen the troubles the United States government brought upon sites like Party Poker and eWallets like Neteller and thought it would most likely be wiser to bow out completely rather than take the multi-million dollar risk.
With a new President being recently elected in Barack Obama, many in the gaming community are hoping for a swift Democratic response to not only the Kentucky situation, but also to the UIGEA laws that went into effect in 2006. Any pending overturns of that ban might see a lot of networks such as Microgaming possibly re-enter the U.S. market, as well as assist in ushering other popular rooms like Party Poker, 888, and BetFair back into the supposed “Land of the Free.”
Beginner UFC Betting Tips in Sportsbooks and Casinos.
November 6, 2008
The UFC has exploded in popularity over the recent years. And with that more and more people are finding their way to the online sports books to place bets on the UFC. The experienced UFC viewer will often tell you the statistics; who’s good on the ground, who’s got the biggest strikes, who’s got something to prove etc. But in reality the UFC can turn out some very unpredictable results and with this there is huge amounts of money to be won!
Your best bet is to look for the odds on the underdog in a fight. This doesn’t mean never bet on a favorite, but if you think that the underdog has a reasonable chance of winning, and the odds given are good enough it may be worth placing a bet on him.
Personally when I bet on underdogs I look for fighters who have good striking skills, or have shown the ability to hit hard in the past, as we all know one punch can easily end a contest!
Another tip I like to offer is when looking to place a bet, I often look at who the public wants to win. For example in boxing, Amir Khan was a huge favorite to win his fight a few weeks back. The public seemed to love him, and people were placing very big bets, with very low odds on him winning the fight. Now with a little research you’d have found out that his opponent, Breidis Prescott, had not lost in his professional career and had a massive KO percentage. This along with Khan’s previous knock down at the hands of Michael Gomez, made Breidis Prescott a extremely good value bet! I wonder how many people betting on Amir Khan, actually did their research on his opponent.
When I bet on favorites I always tend to bet a much smaller amount then I would on a underdog. With the UFC being unpredictable, I personally never bet on heavy favourites, and recommend that you don’t do this either.
Remember don’t bet with your heart. Bet with your head.
If you’re looking to bet on the UFC, BetUS often offers very good lines and competitive odds. You’ll also receive a great bonus when you sign up using any BetUS link on this site, or just click on the banner below. Good luck and happy UFC Betting!
John Juanda Wins 2008 World Series of Poker Europe Main Event!
October 3, 2008
Full Tilt Pro Takes Down Prestigious WSOP Title!
This year’s World Series of Poker Europe Main Event finale was definitely one for the ages. The final table would include two of the biggest poker superstars on the planet - John Juanda and Daniel Negreanu - battling it out against “November Nine” Main Event final tablist Ivan Demidov, revered online tournament pro Scott Fischman, and 5 other gritty opponents who played good enough to make it to the end of this £10,000 buyin event.
Demidov, who is the first person to EVER make two WSOP Main Event final tables in the same year, would join his fellow Russian comrade Stanislav Alekhin at the top of the chip standings as play began for the remaining 9 players. However, all the talk in the stands seemed to be pointing to chip leader John Juanda and Team PokerStars ambassador Daniel Negreanu, who between them have a total of 7 WSOP bracelets and countless millions in tourney earnings.
Unfortunately for Negreanu, who had been playing some of the best poker of the year at this particular WSOPE, would not be able to utilize his big chip stack and sick poker sense to push forward with any realistic momentum, came up short in finishing in a disappointing 5th place. He would be steamrolled by the aforementioned Russian Stanislav Alekhin’s pocket Jacks after his A-9 failed to produce a bullet on the board.
From there on out, all the attention would be focused on Juanda and Alekhin, who would eventually meet heads-up and butt heads for the £868,000 1st place prize. They played back and forth and the chip stacks were swinging wildly. At one point, Juanda was down to his final 900,000 in chips but made an insane rally to get it even towards the conclusion. After crippling his Russian rival, the following hand came up to give Juanda his 4th WSOP bracelet (thanks WSOP.com for the live update just now!):
Fri, 03 Oct 2008 10:33:09
John Juanda Wins the 2008 WSOP-Europe Main Event (£868,800), Stanislav Alekhin Eliminated in 2nd Place (£533,950)
Hand #484 - Stanislav Alekhin has the button. He moves all in and Juanda calls. Alekhin A-9 Juanda K-6. The flop is 6 6 2 and Juanda flops trips to the audience’s elation. The turn is a Q and Alekhin is drawing dead. To put the icing on the cake, the case 6 falls on the river for quads and John Juanda is our champion, winning the 2008 WSOP-E Main Event and his fourth World Series of Poker bracelet! Stanislav Alekhin made a tremendous effort tonight and takes home £533,950 for his runner-up finish.
Sources Confirm Russ Hamilton Behind UB Scandal.
September 30, 2008
Former WSOP Main Event champion Russ Hamilton has been found by investigators to be one of the main suspects behind the Ultimate Bet/Absolute Poker superuser account scandals that robbed players of millions of dollars! Hamilton, who was apparently associated with the affiliate program at UB when they first launched, has now been fingered as a high priority suspect by the KGC and another security firm hired to audit the company.
Frank Catania Sr., president of Catania Gaming Consultants, has been working closely with the Kannawake Gaming Commission to figure out the key figures that were behind the controversy. Their final report includes Hamilton and several others as the main perpetrators of the much-publicized incident. The implication of these individuals carries some serious legal weight, and it is unknown whether they would be tried under international law or taken back to the United States to face trial.
The scandal, which was initially broken by online poker player Nat Arem, has been huge news as of late. The popular CBS program “60 Minutes” is set to air footage of the investigation into both AP and UB, and this will undoubtedly add even more fuel to a fire that has been burning for over a year now at the embattled company.
CardRunners and Stox Poker Form HUGE Alliance.
September 10, 2008
Popular Training Sites Merged Together.
A big announcement was made today regarding CardRunners and Stox Poker, two of the biggest Poker Training websites in the world. It was revealed that both of these giants will be merging their two brands together to form one of the biggest alliances this particular niche has ever seen.
The merge was announced just as membership for both of the sites had been hitting all-time highs all throughout 2008, and CardRunners co-founder Taylor Caby couldn’t be any happier about the move.
“We’re delighted to add breadth and depth to our poker training resources while delivering a decisive competitive advantage to more than 14,000 members,” said Caby. “Members now have two separate platforms to choose from as well as a no-sign up fee option which many customers have requested. Whether you are new to poker or playing nose-bleed stakes, we’ll make sure you’re ready with the top resources behind you.”
The merger also means added value for any new customers looking to improve their game as well. Effective immediately, both of the sites will be waiving the signup fee (normally $99) and also be giving a nice monthly discount on top of that. This will definitely rival any current deals sites like PokerPwnage and RealPokerTraining have to offer from their own companies, so it’ll be fun to monitor them in the future to see if they might make any similar moves to compete with CR and Stox.
As of right now, members of RPT and Pwnage have declined to comment on the recent announcement. I hope to talk to “HerschelW” of PokerPwnage soon enough to get some added insight on what this might mean for the poker training world and how it may affect any future business.

Brunson Expands Doyles Room to Include New Casino.
August 24, 2008
Texas Dolly Adds Casino To Doyle’s Room.
Ten-time WSOP bracelet winner Doyle Brunson has expanded his famous online poker room to also feature a newly-branded online casino, seen below from their website.

This is a big move for the company, who just re-entered the U.S. market a few months ago. and signifies a big change for the landscape of many American-friendly rooms. The addition of the online casino to this popular Microgaming room is something that a lot of other big players such as PokerStars and Full Tilt have yet to do themselves. However, it may not be very long until these powerhouses latch on to the concept, and if that happens there could be quite a battle for the best places to gamble online.
The new online casino will feature an unparalleled selection of streaming live dealer games, video poker, progressive jackpots, arcade slots, baccarat, and numerous other games and online slots. It will have the feel of a real-life casino, and even have the security that a real casino provides its players. In fact, Doyle himself has personally guaranteed that his new casino will also allow its players to have cash back insurance of up to 20% on casino losses!
Gambling101.org will be publishing more information on Doyle’s Room Casino soon - until then, feel free to visit the casino at DoylesRoom.com.
