Scotty Nguyen’s $50K WSOP H.O.R.S.E. Broadcast = Self-Pwnage?
August 22, 2008
The “Prince of Poker” Shows Dark Side.
Viewers of the recently broadcast $50k H.O.R.S.E. on ESPN got a real in-depth look into what a lot of poker players and insiders already knew:

Scotty Nguyen is a drunken PRICK.
On a night that was supposed to be celebrating the life and achievements of inaugural $50k H.O.R.S.E. champion Chip Reese, the ‘Prince’ himself made an absolute mockery of it by drinking heavily during the entire final table, berating the other players, and even becoming very aggressive when the cards started drying up later on in the match. Even his buddy Layne Flack was seen on the cameras multiple times screaming and acting like an idiot - beer in hand of course - as he cheered on Scotty’s behavior.
It is a true understatement that ESPN could honestly do nothing to censor out the damage that was being shelled out by the drunken Nguyen. And unfortunately, cursing, yelling, and verbal threats were a Scotty Nguyen-mainstay at the final table. To give you an idea of how bad it was getting, even classy players like Lyle Berman, Erick Lindgren, and Michael DeMichele were visibly rattled and doing everything in their power to NOT blow their top (Lindgren had to get up on more than several occasions just to get away from Scotty).
As a blogger and avid railbird of ANYTHING poker, I really was both surprised and amazed at the belligerent shenanigans Scotty Nguyen displayed at the final table. Compared to what I witnessed on ESPN, Cardplayer and PokerNews were GENEROUS to Scotty Nguyen when it came to reporting the final table live.
It truly was something you probably had to see to believe - and once you did see it, you honestly felt like you just wanted to forget it ever happened. To see what I mean, check out the video below for a compilation of Nguyen’s actions at the $50k H.O.R.S.E.
